IIP POLICY PAPER: Serbia at a Geopolitical Crossroads
Serbia is bracing itself for the presidential and parliamentarian elections which will be held in April 2022. With rising authoritarianism and corruption, Serbia is more and more drifting away from its European course. The current President, Aleksandar Vucic, continues to lead the country with his authoritarian and anti-democratic policies which effectively strengthens his position and autocratic rule. The opposition, on the other hand, must deal with low media coverage, unstable cooperation between opposition parties and difficulties in monitoring the election process. Yet, after 10 years of Vucic’s rule in Serbia, it seems that the elections 2022 could bring some change in the political spectrum of Serbia.

IIP Talk with Angela Kane Diplomacy and Conflict Resolution – Experiences from the Field 🎬
Dedicated to the International Women’s Day, the talk with Angela Kane will look at various aspects of diplomacy and conflict resolution from a standpoint of a practitioner who served in a range of posts at the United Nations for almost four decades. Angela Kane will share her personal experiences from working in UN civilian peacekeeping missions; high-level negotiations in the conflict environment; leadership in international efforts to establish facts in situations where information supplied by different conflict sides is biased and incomplete; and challenges and opportunities in promoting peace that UN system - driven by member states’ policies - is facing. We will also discuss why engagement of women in diplomacy and conflict resolution is important and how it has changed over the years.
