IIP TALK with Robert Hunter on 2022 NATO Summit 🎬

Ambassador Robert Hunter served as US-ambassador to NATO (1993-95). In this role he participated in the NATO-Summit in Madrid 1997. He explains what changed since then. He talks whether NATO-expansion was a good idea. He speaks about the danger of incidents along the Finnish-Russian border when Finland will be NATO-member. According to the NATO’s 2022 Strategic Concept, cyber-, space and hybrid operations as well as terrorism would invoke NATO’s security promises (Art. V). This for the first time incudes China. Robert Hunter discusses these NATO’s new global commitments. He observes that the Strategic Concept does not mention arms control, diplomatic initiatives for Ukraine and the Iran Nuclear Talks (JCPOA). He advocates a future cooperative European security system.
