African Youth and Migration: Conference in Kampala 2017

The 4th International Conference NOW

Kampala, September 3rd-5th 2017

“African Youth and Migration”

With the world’s largest population under 18, Africa is the world’s youngest continent. While this generation between 15 and 30 years holds a lot of potential, it is also faced with a lot of challenges. Unemployment, poor living conditions, famines, consequences of climate change, terror and armed conflicts, are circumstances that make building a future for on eself or a family unstable, unpredictable, unsafe. Where people suffer from such problems, the situation gives rise to the youth seeking a betterfuture –the central question being, how and where they can find it.

The conference will bring together participants from more than 10 Sub‐Sahara African countries and European experts and politicians. During the three days of conference we aim to raise awareness for the situation and perspective of the African youth, migrants and refugees, with the intention to listen and learn. Key findings and recommendations will be published for the 5th EU‐Africa Summit in Côte d’Ivoire. All attendees actively take part in working sessions, including media representatives. The working sessions are not open to the general public.

The conference will be organised by Act.Now in cooperation with the International Institute for Peace (IPP) and organizational support from the Bruno Kreisky Forum and local partner organizations. Curator of the 4th NOW Conference is Hannes Swoboda, Member of European Parliament (ret.), head of the IIP.
